5 Things I’ll Miss the Most about NAU
Graduation isn’t an ending, its the beginning of the rest of your life!
From your first day on campus to the moment you walk across that stage, NAU has been your home. But just because your time as a student is ending, doesn’t mean your time as a Lumberjack is done just yet! The memories you make on campus will hold a place in your heart as some of the best years of your life.
Recent graduate, Sean McMullen — Class of 2019, shares what memories will stick with him as he starts this new chapter of his life as an #NAUGrad!
NAU has been my home-away-from-home for the last four years through in and through out. I have made memories I won’t be forgetting anytime soon but it becomes a bittersweet moment thinking of leaving. I’m excited about what the future will hold for me but I’m saddened to be leaving my little mountain town.
Here’s a list of things I’ll miss the most about NAU:
1. The scenery:
While everyone tends to complain and joke about Flagstaff’s ever-changing and chaotic weather, I truly enjoyed my walks to school or around campus.
From the trees on the urban trails, to the South Quad, Old Main, and many more it was always a treat just taking a breathe and looking around to enjoy what was around me. It of course helps when the weather is sunny and 60 degrees!
2. The people:
I have met many people during my time at NAU, some in classes that helped me pass and succeed, others who stuck around my entire 4 yers and regardless of the time these people spent in my life, I know they all left a lasting impression on me.
Whether it be a professor, fellow classmate, or a faculty member, they did something to push me along and help me understand myself and the material in front of me better.
These lessons will follow me beyond college, big or small, giving me different perspectives and insights into how to interact with the world around me.
3. The sense of community:
Since coming to NAU my freshman year I always felt this sense of community. This didn’t just stop at the borders of campus however! I always felt warm welcomes, support, and being part of something greater within the entire city of Flagstaff. The constant support and unity makes being a Lumberjack mean that much more!
4. The FCB:
Franke College of Business aka the home for business students. I chose my degree my freshman year but I fell in love with it through my classes at the FCB. The resources in the career development office, my professor’s office hours, and the advising office made my time here that much better.
I truly felt my professors wanted me to succeed and whenever I would go to their office hours it was great getting to connect with them on a personal level outside of the classroom.
5. The Comm building:
While I wasn’t always in the communication building I was there from time to time for my minor classes and I always felt drawn to this part of campus. The First Amendment Plaza, the classrooms, computer labs, and everything else in between is so high-tech and amazing here! I always had a sense of creativity and brainstorming from seeing all the projects other students worked on, it really inspired me whenever I stepped foot inside those glass doors!
If I could give current students one piece of advice, it would be to cherish these experiences and do more things to make your years at NAU the best of your life!
The list of ways that NAU has impacted me during my time on campus could go on and on — but these are just a few that will stick with me as I continue onto my next chapter in life!
