One of the greatest perks to being a Lumberjack is living in Flagstaff, Arizona — where you get to experience all four seasons.

Looking for things to do this winter? Here are 7 activities and places to try out.

🏂 For the Winter Sports Lover ⛷

From snowshoeing to skiing, Flagstaff is the perfect place for winter sports. A quick trip up the mountain and you’ll be able to get your adrenaline going!

Snowbowl 🎿

Arizona Snowbowl is a popular place year-round. Located on the western slope of Mount Humphreys, Snowbowl is a skiier’s dream. With 8 chair lifts and 55 runs, there’s something for every level.

If you’re looking for a slower paced activity, give snowshoes a try.

The year-round trails see much less traffic and are perfect for snowshoeing. You can’t beat the winter scenery of a snowshoe walk around Mount Humphreys.

Lumberjack tip: Try to go on a weekday when you might have a light class load to avoid the weekend crowds. Take advantage of the Friday night discount lift and rental packages!

Arizona Nordic Village ⛷️

Located just 15 miles northwest of Flagstaff, Arizona Nordic Village offers all the snow adventure without the crowds. This winter wonderland offers over 40km of trails to cross-country ski or snowshoe on.

These Flagstaff winter trails are also great for snowshoeing:

🛷 For the Scenery ⛄️

Flagstaff has beautiful parks that become their own winter wonderland this season. If you want to get out and enjoy a snowy, sunny day, check out these local areas.

Buffalo Park ❄️

With a vast network of trails, Buffalo Park offers amazing views of the San Francisco Peaks.

The park features a two-mile trail loop with access to the Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS), National Forest trails, and the Arizona Trail.

Bonus: You can also participate in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing here. But the flat landscape is ideal for a long winter walk.

Flagstaff Snow Park ☃️

For all things Snow Day, Flagstaff Snow Park is your ultimate venue.

Build a snowman, take a snow tubing run, or cozy up by an outdoor fireplace and roast marshmallows. Bring your friends and grab lunch from the food trucks between all the snow fun.

Flagstaff Snow Park opens in mid-December. Tickets must be purchased online before visiting.

🎄 For the Nostalgia: Eat, Drink and Skate ⛸

Cold winter days are more than snowball fights and sledding — they’re also the perfect background for hot drinks, festive lights and holiday nostalgia.

Cozy Up in a Coffee Shop ☕

Many lumberjacks love a good coffee shop, and Flagstaff has plenty to offer.

Here are a few of our favorites:

If coffee isn’t your thing, check out Steep Leaf Lounge downtown for a hot tea and plenty of cozy feels.

Enjoy Some Comfort Food 🍜

Winter season is a great time for hot comfort foods like ramen, curry, pizza and pasta. These Flagstaff restaurants are great for warming up:

Ice Skating ⛸️

Downtown Flagstaff’s “Skate at the Station” offers the whole experience for ice skating and holiday feels. The skating rink is at the Flagstaff Visitor Center, right in the heart of downtown.

Make a day of it with your roommates or friends by ice skating, checking out the downtown shops and finishing up the day at one of Flagstaff’s local restaurants.
