Martin Nilsen was visiting his brother, an international student at NAU from Norway, when he met Corinne Noble — and the rest is history as they say.

How did the two of you meet? While Martin was visiting his brother on a travel visa, we met at NAU and ending up spending most of his visit together! The day after he returned to Norway he applied to NAU and returned to study photography and spend more time with me 💘

Where was the first place around Flagstaff you went on a date?

Martin and I used to meet at Starbucks and would talk for hours! We were there for 8 hours one day! I think meeting for coffee and talking allowed us to really get to know each other.

What is the secret to finding friends or love while at NAU?

Live on campus, especially as a freshman! Talk to people you have classes with and show up to group meetings etc. After a while you will start seeing the same people taking the same classes as you and then things just tend to work out!

For Carl and Julie — NAU and August 25th are special for 3 reasons:

1) We met here and went on our first date 27 years ago (I was about to start classes as a Freshman and he was a Sophomore)

2) We got engaged 3 years later on this day

3) We moved our own daughter into her dorm at NAU!

For Jason and Heather, Greek life played a major role

He was a junior and I was a freshmen. It was the Fall of 1994 and my first weekend on campus. I lived in Pine Ridge. My suite-mate asked me to go to a PIKE fraternity party and I said sure why not. The rest is history. The best thing about campus is that so many students live together. Living on campus created lifelong friendships and a successful marriage. We frequently visit the mountain campus and are very fond of NAU, Flagstaff and journey it started for both of us! We were married in the Winter of 1997, and just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary.

He graduated in the Spring of 1996 and Heather received a Master’s Degree in Fall of 2006.

For Zach and Erika, Graduation day is extra meaningful

After graduation, I had a lunch celebration at my home here in Flagstaff. I could tell my mom and boyfriend’s family was being secretive about something, but I tried to ignore it. As we walked up a small hill into a part of the forest to take more photos, I realized that we were walking kind of far. All of a sudden, I heard music playing and saw one of the pretty gazebos in the woods wrapped in twinkle lights with a violinist! Zach got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him — and of course I said yes! I graduated cum lade and gotten engaged in the same day, fairytales do come true!

For Stallon and Alexia, the Rolle Activity Center is more than just a basketball court

How did the two of you meet? We met our freshman year here at NAU in McConnell Hall. Our friend, Ryan, played matchmaker and plotted to get us to go out… his plan worked and we’ve been together ever since!

Meet Katrina

In 2017, her last semester of her senior year, Katrina Hume, a biomedical science major had just returned from studying abroad in the Netherlands, with one thing on her mind — graduation.

With the finish line in site, she assumed she would be getting ready for graduation and life in the real world.

Little did she know she would soon meet someone who would change the course of her life forever — and for the better ❤

Ben Gleeson came to Flagstaff in 2017 to study at NAU for his spring semester. He was a physics major from Newcastle, Australia and was excited to have the opportunity to meet new people and explore the town.

How They Met

Katrina loves country music so she liked to visit popular two-stepping spots in town to listen to music and learn some new moves. On a cold night in January, Katrina was with her friends when she heard foreign accents coming from a group of students in line behind her.

Katrina: I turned around in line, because who doesn’t love an accent? I introduced myself and well… the rest is history!

Ben of course, was one of those foreigners. He had heard about two-stepping and was eager to see it for himself. He and his friends had made their way to the line when a girl whipped around and asked to guess where each of he and his friends are from.

Ben: I was just so impressed that she nailed where me and my friends were from

Katrina: I knew he was the one for me. I remember, it was on the 5th of May that it really hit me how much I loved Ben. He was different. He’s so caring, thoughtful, and really checks all the boxes.

Going the distance

Ben and Katrina knew what they had was special and decided to continue their relationship when it was time for Ben to head back to Australia after the semester ended.

They took turns visiting each other until Ben finished up his degree in Australia and moved back to Flagstaff to be with Katrina.

Ben: I knew as soon as Katrina agreed to making long distance work that I was going to marry this girl. Her making that big commitment meant so much.

Whether they are shredding together on the mountain or enjoying a date night at their favorite Flagstaff restaurant, Aloha BBQ, their love is undeniable.

You never know where Cupid’s arrow may land!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Jacks!
