From the NAU Career Closet to Peer Mentors : W. A. Franke Resources You Need to Know
Resources to elevate your Lumberjack journey 🏔️
Success in college goes beyond lectures and textbooks — it’s about finding the right resources to help you kick axe.
Here’s our W.A. Franke College of Business guide to resources that can make a big difference in your Lumberjack journey!
Career Development Office
The CDO or Career Development Office is a resource to help business students prepare and succeed in any career path.
They offer many resources, workshops, and events to aid any career or professional goal. I’ve attended a couple of career fairs, development workshops, and resume reviews during my time at NAU.
It’s a great help of a resource that doesn’t cost students a penny but just a couple of clicks to find a world of resources.
Lumberjack Tip: Did you know CDO has a Pinterest page too?
The Dean’s Closet
When you want to look your best but a new outfit isn’t in your budget, the Dean’s Closet has your back!
The Dean’s Closet program helps provide assistance for students in need of professional attire for FCB professional development events and other job related occasions.
You can fill out the program form on the FCB resources page or find Ms. Lewis, the Director of Undergraduate Programs, in room 222 of the FCB building.
I’ve used this program once and was able to get a blazer for a career development event! Definitely something to utilize and check out even on a short notice.
Business Communication Center
The Business Communication Center has two locations on campus to help students develop and grow their communication skills.
Students can drop-in at HRM or the W.A. Franke College of Business or go online for writing assistance.
Tutors are available to help with any step of the writing process and any type of writing or communication (from papers to presentations).
Key Services
- Available on a drop-in basis, so no appointment is necessary.
- Tutors are happy to work with you on any type of writing or communication- i.e.a research paper, discussion post, or a presentation.
- Tutors will support you through any stage of the writing process: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, citing, editing, and more.
- You can stay as long as you want to write, think, and take breaks. There’s no rush.
And bonus, it’s a place of no rush so you can take your time to write, think, and take breaks.
The Franke Mentor Program
🎵 We get by with a little help from our friends 🎵
The Franke Mentor Program links students one-to-one with a peer mentor.
Students are paired with a fellow W.A. Franke student who is there to help them navigate life as a business student.
Mentee opportunities are open to freshman and sophomore students who are pursuing a major through The W. A. Franke College of Business.
Mentor opportunities are open to all FCB majors who have successfully completed at least one semester at NAU.
Handshake
When you need an on campus job or help finding an internship — Handshake is the first place you should go!
Handshake is a networking, recruiting, and job board platform. The platform offers many career opportunities, job offerings, and internships directly from employers aiming to hire university students.
There’s on and off-campus jobs as well!
Lumberjack tip: You can utiliize your Handshake account EVEN as an ALUM!
Veteran Success Center
Our students veterans were there for us and we want to make sure we’re there for them ❤️
FACT: We’re the only business college in the nation to have our own Veteran Student Center.
From helping with the transition between military and student life to student veteran advocacy, we’re here to support our student vets every step of the way, no matter their journey.
Check out these resources and you’ll kick axe even more!
P.S. Savor the moments. Before you know it, you’ll be decorating your grad caps and walking across the stage!
