If You Know, You Know
10 things you’ll only understand if you’re living the #LumberjackLife
From the peaks to the creeks, Lumberjack life really does have it all, but some things you really only understand when you’re living at 7,000 feet 🙌
1. The Union Skateboarders
We had to start with this one. You’ve seen them land their tricks, and maybe even miss a few. No matter what, these skaters are no joke and are outside the Union at all times constantly shredding. Campus just wouldn’t feel the same if we didn’t have them to watch while getting our Starbucks!
2. The outdoor activities
Hiking, kayaking, camping— you name it! Chances are, many of the activities we love we have never tried before coming here.
#LumberjackTip Create a bucket list things of things to do. As soon as you cross one off, you learn something new to add.
3. Springtime Wind
You know spring is coming when “the wind” becomes notorious around campus. You probably didn’t expect this when you told your friends you were going to NAU for the weather! Despite the struggle of bad hair-days, you can’t help but laugh and push on through!
4. Flannels Are A Wardrobe Staple
Flannels have turned into something people wear year-round, and it just makes sense! The only problem now is when you run into someone else wearing the same flannel.
5. The First-Time-Seeing-Snow Feeling
Whether it’s 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., everyone leaves their hall to experience the magical feeling of the first snowfall.
For the majority of students, it is their first time ever seeing snow. It makes for some great memories of making snow people, catching snowflakes on your tongue, and sledding down campus hills on anything but a sled!
6. The Chick-fil-A line
If you don’t make it at just the right time, then you know what line we are talking about. Either way, you’re probably going to stick it out because honestly, who wouldn’t — it’s Chick-fil-A and they accept your meal plan!
7. “Meet Me At The French Fries”
Does anyone actually know the name of this statue? What we do know is that this statue has been unanimously nicknamed “The French Fries” and it is a signature selfie spot and meeting spot for students and visitors alike.
8. 60 Degrees Is Shorts Weather
As soon as the thermometer hits 60 degrees, students across campus know spring is here and it’s time to pull out your favorite pair of shorts! A temperature that once felt freezing back home is now indication of a beautiful day. Make sure to get outside and soak up some sun!
9. Reunions on the Pedway
Our campus is just the right size where every day you can see a new face but also run into people that you know on your way to and from class! This makes for some awkward moments when you are trying to remember a classmate’s name, but also some exciting unexpected reunions with friends!
10. The Robots
NAU is the second campus nationwide to adopt the Starship food delivery robots. If you haven’t ordered from them yet, give it a go! The only thing that beats food being delivered to you is staring out your window for 10 minutes looking for it.
