My Life in 5 Pictures: Maria
Meet Kona, Michaela, David and Dixie. What drives me? My family, my #squad.
Home is where the heart is
This is my home. I was born and raised on the island of Guam. In my dream world, I would be here everyday. The sand and the ocean are my calming space and when I go too long without seeing the water, I get antsy.
Chase Your Dreams
I tried out to be an Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader after I graduated from law school. Well beyond my prime dancing days. I made the Cardinals not on my first try, or second try, but on my third. If you want something in life, pursue it and pursue it with all you have. Every year, I didn’t make the team I learned a little bit more about the process and gained more confidence for the next try.
Work hard. Envision it and make it happen. Because dreams really do come true.
And when I find myself doubting that, I always look at this picture and remind myself that if you can believe it, you can make it happen.
Life’s a balancing act
I’m lucky to be doing what I do. I love working in a university setting, being able to share stories and work with my amazing team of interns. Working full time and being a mom, though, is a constant juggle. When I’m home with her, I just want to be mom and unplug from the world. That’s the not always possible though. In fact, she’s quite good at finding my phone and even tweeted once. Luckily, I have the most supportive family. When I need to work on the weekends, they often have come with and we’re able to create memories of our own. Side note: She loves Louie until he gets too close and then she bursts into tears.
Good vibes only
Feed your body, feed your soul. Whatever that “me time” is for you, do it. For me, I make it a priority to get out and get active. Whether it’s yoga, barre class, running or walking those campus hills — I use that time to get centered, destress and know that no matter how tired I am, I’ll feel the benefits later.
