Social Tools: Buffer App

Keeping up with the demands of social media, made easy

What if we told you there was an app that let you organize, create and schedule posts for a variety of platforms, all in one place?

With you can! Simple enough for even the most novice social media managers but intuitive enough to offer exactly what you need, Buffer is a real gamer changer 💯

What does Buffer do?

Buffer is essentially a visual way to schedule your social media posts. What it does is simple — posts in your queue will be sent out automatically by Buffer, according to the posting schedule that you put in place. Buffer will also automatically select a time that it recommends, but you can easily change that in app.

Some of Buffer’s main features include:

Creating and Scheduling posts Buffer allows you to draft posts and supports photo, video, links, and even GIFs all through Buffer. It allows you to queue content to save for a rainy day ☔️ or schedule it out to be posted on a timeline you create!

To create a post and add to your queue:

  1. Click inside the “What do you want to share box”
  2. Choose which profiles to share the post to
  3. Add your post to the queue

*There are a variety of sharing options. Share Next will put your post at the top of the queue and will be the next one posted. Share Now will post immediately. Schedule Post will allow you to select a time and date for it to be shared.

And our favorite…

Automatic Posting

We get that you’re busy and social can take A LOT of time.

Buffer can help you auto-schedule your posts, Tweets, and pins so you don’t have to think twice about it #HandsFree

Instead of you picking the date and times for each post, Buffer will automatically send out the posts added to your queue, according to the posting schedule you put in place.

If you want to set the ground rules, simply alter your posting schedule by going to Settings > Posting Schedule and then selecting your timezone and customizing the days and times your posts should go out.

For example, if you only post 3 days a week, you can tell Buffer you want Facebook posts sent out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 5 and 6 pm.

By setting up these regulations you simply have to drop in your content and let Buffer do the rest.

Social Media Calendar created by Buffer

This feature allows you to plan content way in advance! Perfect for scheduling during the summer to make sure you have content out during the exciting but often busy first few weeks of school!

Now remember, things can change quickly, so it is important to stay up to date with what is happening on social media to make sure your posts are still relevant, but this can be extremely helpful for big announcements or events you know will need to be shared on your accounts.

Buffer Browser Extension

Let’s say you are scrolling through and see something you would love to share… Instead of pasting a link somewhere for later use, you can use the Buffer Extension to pull the page and save it automatically for you so you can update later!

Why use Buffer instead of regular Social Media posting?

Posting content directly to your social platforms definitely works — it just takes time out of your day. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just sit down for an hour every week and plan your posts and schedule them?

With Buffer you can.

Each day you can then go into your platforms and engage with your audience — like their comments, reply to their posts, and drive engagement.

With this extra time you can also walk through campus and take pictures and video to Buffer for next week. Once you start getting the hang of Buffer and start building your content, you’ll find that you become a lot more consistent and focused with your social media efforts.

Shift your focus from being content driven to actually being social with your audience!

Go from posting something because it’s Tuesday at 5pm and that’s when you post, to being able to visualize your week and strategically planning your content.

Don’t just take our word for it! Life Wire shares !

1. You don’t have to schedule every single post separately, making it a faster alternative to other scheduling tools.

Rather than requiring you to select and set a specific time for a post to go out every single time you want to schedule one, you can just write a new post, add it to your queue and forget it! You also have total control over your scheduled times so your queued posts always post whenever you want them to post — right down to the minute.

2. You can schedule posts for five of the most popular social networks.

Buffer can be used with Facebook (profiles, pages and groups), Twitter, LinkedIn (profiles and pages), Google+ (profiles and pages) and Instagram. Pinterest is a sixth social network you can use with Buffer only if you decide to upgrade.

3. Buffer’s free plan includes a generous offering for any small business, brand or individual account.

A free plan lets you connect up to three social network accounts and gives you unlimited scheduling with up to 10 posts per account stored in your queue at a time. For many small businesses/brands and individuals, that’s plenty.

You’ll also get access to post analytics so that you can see how many clicks and other interactions you got on your posts. This will help you determine which posts perform well and which times of the day have the highest engagement rates.
