5 Graduations Tips for NAU Students
By: Megan Ruangchamneil, Class of 2022
It’s grad season, and if you’re like me, you probably have some questions about… well…everything. Worry not though, I have a detailed student guide on how to tackle commencement head-first as a graduating Lumberjack myself.
Tip #1: Make sure you are graduating 🎓
If you haven’t checked with an advisor or on LOUIE about your academic progress, then now might be a good time to do that. It would be to your benefit to speak with someone about credits and making sure you have the proper amount to graduate on time.
If you haven’t done that yet STOP READING and click this link below to check LOUIE:

Tip #2: Find out the time and place for your graduation 🗓️
Do you know for sure when your graduation is happening? From dates to dress code, the website linked below will inform you of everything you may need to know about commencement. Also note that you might be attending a different ceremony than your friends if you belong to separate colleges, so double check now! It can’t hurt.

Tip #3: Make sure your family has hotel and food reservations 🥗
After you find out the details of your graduation time and place, inform your friends and family who are coming to cheer you on. Let them know that hotels and dinner reservations can be tough to come by during this specific weekend of the year, and they should plan accordingly if they want either of those things.
Tip #4: Figure out parking
As a student, you may already know that parking on campus is rough, so you know better than anyone how to guide your friends and family to find parking on your big day. 🚗
There will be a shuttle taking guests from the San Francisco Parking Garage to the Sky Dome all day, so make sure your guests know their parking options to lessen the chaos.
Tip #5: Set a “meet-up-place” after graduation 🏫
Hundreds of people will be piling out of the Dome after graduation, so it would be in your best interest to set a game plan of where to meet up with your guests after the ceremony is over.
May I recommend the giant statue of Louie the Lumberjack? He is hard to miss, tall, and colorful, not to mention a great background for some post-graduation pictures.
I hope these tips helped make you feel a little less nervous on your big day. But don’t forget my most important tip: have fun! Congratulations Lumberjacks, you earned it. 🎓
