In Flagstaff, there are many ways to get involved in the community — whether that’s by volunteering, performing community outreach, or getting a part-time job — giving back is easier than you think!

Volunteering is great for creating work experience, resume building, academics, and overall just giving back to the community!

Here are just a few opportunities in town to get you started and on your way:

For the “People Person”

Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff

The Boys & Girls Club is perfect for anyone wanting to make a positive impact on a child’s life and have some fun while you’re at it. Members (kids) attend the club every day after school, during the summer, and even on the weekends for special events! Because of the vast amount of activities going on, there are tons of opportunities to volunteer including after school games and gym activities, education center, teen nights, coaching, special skills, and more.

Flagstaff Family Food Center

The Flagstaff Family Food Center is dedicated to helping those who are fighting hunger and food security in our community. Volunteer with them in the kitchen, at the food bank, or through the Children’s Literacy program

  • Volunteers for dinner preparation are needed every day from 10:00 a.m. — noon.
  • Servers and clean up crew are needed every day from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For the Animal Lovers

Coconino Humane Association

The Coconino Humane Association is always in need of new volunteers to help them take care of their animals. There is a full list of volunteer opportunities which include: dog walker, dog and cat socializer, adoption counselor, off-site event aide, and more!

Volunteer Orientation is every Thursday at 3:00 pm and every
Saturday at 11:15 am.

Orientation costs $15 but you receive a T-shirt, name tag, and handbook — and all proceeds go directly to the care of animals at the shelter!

In need of some more puppy-love in your insta feed? Check out the Coconino Humane Association on Instagram — they post information on adoption events and shelter services that might be in need of volunteers!

Friends of Flagstaff’s Future

This organization is great for someone who wants take care of Flagstaff’s beautiful environment and get involved in local policy change. F3s purpose is to lead Flagstaff’s transition towards a more resilient, sustainable, and just community and economy by: elevating stewardship of our built and natural environment, minimizing consumption and destruction of energy and resources, promoting social justice, and strengthening the local and green economy. Volunteering opportunities involve trail clean ups, attending city meetings, recycling activities, and tabling at special events!

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live and housing poverty and homelessness are eliminated. Volunteering here can help provide shelter for those in our community and help end homelessness in Northern AZ. You can volunteer with their Restore which is a donation based thrift store, or get a group together and help build homes with them in our community!

For the Nature Lover

Keep Nature Wild

Keep Nature Wild is perfect for anyone who wants to jump in on action to take care of our planet while experiencing nature and getting their adventure on. This company organizes clean ups in different areas across Arizona, including Flagstaff, where you can join them to pick up trash and debris deposited by other humans.

Join KNW for their 11/29 Impact Friday event and join a clean up in your area! If you visit their website beforehand you can get a free cleanup kit to get your day started off strong!

For the Fashionista

Sharon’s Attic Thrift Store

Sharon’s Attic is a thrift store with the mission to help homeless survivors of domestic violence. Their store assists survivors heal and regain their footing after trauma. There are many ways to volunteer here including running the register, merchandising, store organization, special events, and more. If transportation is needed, there is a Mountain Line city bus that can help volunteers too!

Arizona Historical Society

Are you interested in Arizona and history? Love museums and archives? Looking for ways to make a difference in your community?

If so, becoming an Arizona Historical Society volunteer may be for you. This volunteer opportunity is perfect for anyone who loves learning about and preserving Arizona’s history!

In Flagstaff, volunteers are located either at the Riordan Mansion or the Pioneer Museum. The volunteer application gets details on a variety of your personal interests so volunteers can do something that they are interested in while there.
